Yamaha AW1600 and AW2400 Workstations

The legacy of Yamaha’s groundbreaking AW Series digital audio workstations continues with the introduction of the AW1600 and AW2400.

Both units are fully backward-compatible with prior Yamaha workstations, and have everything you need to record your music anytime, anywhere in compact, road-worthy designs—keeping alive the tradition of reliable, portable and professional music production products.

Yamaha AW1600
Totally Reliable: The AW1600 and AW2400 have been engineered from the ground up to be the best multitrack recorders they can be. So they’re always reliable—no crashes, and no OS updates.

Yamaha AW1600Easily Portable: These complete studio packages are ready to pick up and go anywhere you want to record.

Completely Professional: Mixing, routing and onboard effects are based on the industry-standard Yamaha “0” series digital consoles, so everything has the familiar feel quality of Yamaha.

“Imagine if you had a portable computer that was dedicated to doing just one thing—being the best multitrack recorder it could be,” says Athan Billias, director, Yamaha Corporation of America, Technology Products. “That’s exactly what the new AW series workstations are—dedicated computers designed for recording. Recording on the computer has come a long way, but there is still a need for dedicated hard disk recorders because they are completely portable and totally reliable.”

The AW1600 is currently available, and has been created for the home studio musician, adding many features to the award-winning AW16G while maintaining the same affordability. New features include eight combo inputs (all with Phantom power), USB 2.0 drag-and-drop capabilities for moving files onto your computer, 24-bit recording and a new Pitch Fix algorithm for correcting the pitch of vocal tracks. The 16-track design, Quick Loop Sample function, Hi-Z connection, Guitar and Mastering effects and sample pads have the familiar operation and user-friendly interface from the AW16G, while a powerful new SH3 CPU processor, generous 40 GB hard drive and unrestricted song limit provide endless possibilities for song creation and mix building.

Available travel options include the Yamaha YB01X bag, which can accommodate the AW1600, a laptop, cables and other accessories. Features include rugged wheels, separate compartments, a retractable handle, and a compact design that will easily fit in standard airline overhead compartments.

Yamaha AW2400
The AW2400 is a complete portable studio solution for anyone who is serious about recording and production. And, just like the legendary AW4416, users can record, edit, mix and master without the need for external equipment, but much faster. This new flagship of the AW line includes 24 simultaneous tracks of playback, motorized 100mm faders and the same expansion slot found on Yamaha digital mixng consoles for connecting the AW to professional studio gear.

Yamaha AW2400An updated 24-track recording system (each with up to eight associated virtual tracks) complete with sampling, editing, automation/snapshot and mastering capabilities, retains true 24-bit resolution, and records directly to the internal 40GB hard drive with no song size limitation. Editing is easy with ten user defined function keys and a large, 02R-sized LCD.

You can expand your system, create a live 16-track recording, or interface with external devices with a range of optional I/O interface cards from third-party developers and Yamaha—including the recently-released mLAN MY16 series cards.

Upgrades continue with eight Phantom powered XLR and eight TRS inputs, Insertion inputs on Channels 1 and 2, four dedicated AUX outputs, an integrated Pitch Fix function, and seamless PC integration with USB 2.0 connectivity.

The AW2400 will be available in late October 2005.

“What sets the AW1600 and AW2400 apart from other stand-alone units is their new USB 2.0 capabilities,” adds Billias. “This allows you to drag and drop files to your computer to take advantage of the best of both worlds—stand-alone reliability, and computer software flexibility.”
